Christmas Friendlies

We learned, we bonded.

We showed up with the intention of learning from tougher opponents. Coach Tony prepared the team to disregard the score lines and simply learn and observe. Our first games were our biggest challenges as a team. The girls’ eyes were opened to an intense and physical approach to soccer they had not experienced playing their familiar teams. Our defeats were heavy handed.

However, as we do, the team dug deep, strategized and found a whole new level of ferocity to take on the next challenges. With a renewed sense of belief, the ‘Novas took it to their opponents in the later stages of the tournament and found the goals to find the victories.

Supernova showed up in the championship game against the mighty Flash who had handed them their largest loss of the year early on in the day. Socks were pulled up, hair tied back. As the minutes passed Coach Tony saw the hunger in their eyes. He quickly switch his approach from “learning” to “winning”, The girls gave it absolutely everything. They found a goal, but it wasn’t enough. They held their own with only a couple subs against an army of Flash players.

We headed home having left it all on the field, a little worse for wear, but full of pride.
